Legendary lands

Once upon a time…

Drawn from: Atlantis, Picaresque novel type, Mentor, Man vs Old Age Conflict. Told in English.

In the heart of a sunken city, where the sea whispered secrets and the coral towers gleamed under the moon's glow, there lived an old man named Halmar. He was once a celebrated navigator, known for charting the hidden paths of the ocean. Now, his hands trembled, and his eyes, once sharp as a hawk's, grew dim. The people of the city, known for their love of tales and songs, often spoke of the "Ebbing Tide," a local tradition where every decade, the sea would recede far beyond its usual reach, revealing the lost treasures of the ancients.

As the Ebbing Tide approached, the city buzzed with excitement. Young and old prepared to venture into the exposed seabed, hoping to find relics of the past. Halmar, too, felt a spark of his old spirit. He longed to walk the ocean floor once more, to feel the thrill of discovery. But his body, worn by time, protested with every step.

The night before the Ebbing Tide, Halmar sat by the shore, the waves lapping at his feet. He remembered the tales of a magical conch shell, said to grant the listener a single wish. It was rumored to lie beneath the sands, waiting for the worthy. As the moon rose high, Halmar made a quiet vow to find it.

At dawn, the sea pulled back, unveiling a landscape unseen for years. The young dashed forward, laughter and shouts filling the air. Halmar followed slowly, each step a reminder of his age. He wandered alone, eyes scanning the ground, until he stumbled upon a small, gleaming object half-buried in the sand. It was the conch shell, as beautiful as the legends described.

With trembling hands, Halmar lifted the shell to his ear and whispered his wish: "Let me be young once more, to sail the seas and see the world anew." The shell hummed softly, then fell silent. Halmar waited, but nothing changed. Disappointed, he turned to leave.

As the tide began to return, Halmar noticed something curious. The young seekers were gathering around him, eyes wide with wonder. They spoke of a man who had found the greatest treasure of all—not gold or jewels, but the courage to seek dreams despite the years. Halmar realized then that the true magic lay not in reclaiming youth, but in the wisdom and stories he could share.

The Ebbing Tide ended, but Halmar's tale lived on, inspiring others to embrace their own journeys, no matter the age. And so, the legend of the old navigator grew, carried on the waves to distant shores.
