Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Ultime Thule, in the future, Mentor, ghosts coming back to protect a loved place. Told in English.
In the land of Ultima Thule, where the sun kissed the horizon with a golden hue and the winds spoke in whispers, there was a village nestled between the mountains and the sea. This village, known as Eldergrove, was a place of peace and plenty, where the people lived in harmony with the spirits of the land.
Long ago, in the time of the Ancients, the villagers believed that the spirits of their ancestors watched over them. These spirits, it was said, dwelled in the sacred grove at the edge of the village, a place where the trees grew tall and their leaves sang songs of old.
The people of Eldergrove honored the spirits with offerings of fruit and flowers, and in return, the spirits blessed the land with bountiful harvests and gentle rains. But as the seasons turned, a shadow fell upon the village. A great storm, unlike any seen before, swept through the land. The winds howled like a beast unleashed, and the sea rose up in anger, threatening to swallow the village whole.
The villagers gathered in fear, seeking counsel from the wise elder, a woman named Brynja, who knew the ways of the spirits. Brynja, with her hair as white as the snow-capped peaks, listened to the cries of the wind and the whispers of the trees. She spoke of a vision she had seen—a vision of the spirits rising from their sacred grove to defend the village.
"The spirits will come," Brynja declared, her voice steady as a mountain stream. "But we must call to them, for they will not come unbidden."
And so, the villagers gathered at the edge of the sacred grove, their hearts full of hope and fear. They sang the ancient songs, their voices rising into the stormy sky, calling to the spirits of their ancestors.
As the last note faded, a hush fell over the grove. The wind stilled, and the air shimmered with a soft, ethereal light. From the depths of the grove, the spirits emerged, their forms like mist and moonlight. They moved with grace, their eyes glowing with the wisdom of ages.
The spirits spoke not with words but with the language of the heart. They spread their arms wide, and the storm, once fierce and wild, began to calm. The winds softened to a gentle breeze, and the raging sea retreated, its fury spent.
The village was saved, and the people wept with joy and gratitude. Brynja, her eyes filled with tears, stepped forward to thank the spirits. She promised that the villagers would never forget their ancestors' kindness and that they would continue to honor them with love and respect.
The spirits nodded, their forms flickering like candle flames, and slowly, they returned to the sacred grove, their duty fulfilled. The villagers watched as the light faded, leaving behind only the rustle of leaves and the soft sigh of the wind.
From that day on, the people of Eldergrove lived with a renewed sense of wonder and reverence for the spirits who had saved them. They tended to the sacred grove with care, ensuring that it remained a place of beauty and peace.
And so, the tale of the ghostly protectors of Eldergrove was passed down through the generations, a story of hope and courage, of the bond between the living and the spirits who watched over them. It reminded the people of Ultima Thule that even in the darkest of times, they were never truly alone, for the spirits of their ancestors were always near, ready to rise and protect the land they loved.
