Once upon a time…

Drawn from: Lithania, Barbara Allen Ballad, Hero, returning back to a childhood place. Told in English.

Once upon a time, in a land where forests whispered secrets and rivers sang songs of old, there was a young man named Jonas. He had left his village many years ago, seeking fortune and adventure in faraway lands. But now, a strange longing pulled him back to his childhood home, nestled between emerald woods and silver lakes.

Jonas remembered the stories his grandmother used to tell about the Singing Stones. These stones, hidden deep in the forest, were said to hum with the voices of those who had walked the earth before. It was believed that if you listened closely, the stones would reveal truths and guide the lost back to their path.

Upon his return, Jonas found the village much changed. The once lively market square was quiet, and familiar faces had grown old or moved away. Yet the forest remained, untouched by time, its trees standing tall like ancient guardians.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Jonas ventured into the woods, drawn by the memory of the Singing Stones. The path was overgrown, the way uncertain, but he felt a pull stronger than fear. The forest was alive with the sounds of night—owls hooted, leaves rustled, and somewhere in the distance, a wolf howled.

After hours of wandering, Jonas stumbled upon a clearing bathed in moonlight. There, arranged in a perfect circle, stood the Singing Stones. He approached them with reverence, placing his hand on the cold, smooth surface of the nearest stone. At first, there was silence. Then, a low hum began to fill the air, growing louder until it was a chorus of voices, each distinct yet part of a harmonious whole.

Jonas closed his eyes, listening intently. The stones spoke of courage and the importance of roots, of how the past shapes the future. They reminded him of the love he had left behind, the family and friends who had once been his world.

With newfound clarity, Jonas knew what he must do. He returned to the village, not as a wanderer seeking escape, but as a son, a friend, and a member of the community. He helped rebuild the market, shared tales of his travels, and planted new seeds of hope and connection.

In time, the village thrived once more, and Jonas found peace in the place he had once called home. The Singing Stones continued to hum in the forest, a reminder that sometimes, the greatest adventure is the journey back to where you began.
