Once upon a time…
Drawn from: El Dorado, Karadzic Ballads, Hero, Feeling of longing for home. Told in English.
In the golden land of dreams, where rivers shimmered under the sun's embrace and mountains cradled the clouds, there lay a city hidden from the eyes of the world. It was a place of wealth and wonder, where the streets were paved with gold dust and the air was sweet with the scent of blooming flowers. This was the city of the sun, a realm whispered in legends and sought by many, yet found by few.
In this city lived an old man named Aurelian. His hair was as white as the peaks that surrounded their world, and his eyes held the depth of countless years. Aurelian was a storyteller, a keeper of tales passed down from generations, and his words were the threads that wove the tapestry of their history. Yet, despite the beauty and bounty of his homeland, Aurelian's heart ached with a longing as deep as the ocean's abyss. He yearned for a place he had never seen but felt in the marrow of his bones—a place he called home.
The people of the city believed that the mountains sang at night, a melody only the pure of heart could hear. It was said that those who followed the song would find their true home, a place where their spirit could rest. Aurelian, with his heart full of longing, decided to seek this song, hoping it would lead him to the place he yearned for.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue over the city, Aurelian set out. The path was treacherous, winding through forests where the trees whispered secrets of old. The moon rose high, casting a silvery glow, and it was then Aurelian heard it—a soft, haunting melody that seemed to call his name.
He followed the song, his feet moving as if guided by an unseen force. The melody grew stronger, wrapping around him like a warm embrace. It led him to a clearing where stood an ancient tree, its branches reaching towards the heavens. Beneath its boughs sat a woman, her hair flowing like liquid gold, her eyes as deep as the night sky.
"Welcome, traveler," she said, her voice as soothing as the song itself. "You seek a home you have never known, yet it is the home of your soul."
Aurelian nodded, his heart filled with hope and longing. "I have roamed these lands, but my heart has never found peace. I seek the place where I belong."
The woman smiled, a gentle, knowing smile. "The home you seek is not a place, but a feeling. It is the love and memories you carry within you. It is the stories you tell and the lives you touch. Your home is here," she said, placing a hand over his heart.
Aurelian felt a warmth spread through him, a sense of peace he had never known. The song of the mountains filled the air, and he realized that he had been home all along, in the stories he cherished and the love he shared.
And so, Aurelian returned to his city, his heart light and his spirit free. He continued to tell his tales, weaving the magic of the mountains into every word. The people listened, their hearts touched by the truth he had found.
In the golden land of dreams, where rivers shimmered and mountains sang, Aurelian found his home, not in a place, but in the love and stories that bound them all together. And the city of the sun shone brighter, its people united by the tales of an old storyteller who had found his way home.
Did it land?
