Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Space, Mentor, Man vs Supernatural Beings Conflict. Told in English.
It was a chilly autumn evening when I first encountered the inexplicable. The sun had dipped below the horizon, leaving the sky a deep indigo, and I was trudging back to my small apartment after a long day at the office. The streets were mostly empty, save for a few scattered leaves dancing in the wind. I had always found solace in the quiet of my neighborhood, but that night, the silence felt different—alive, almost.
As I turned the corner onto Maple Street, I noticed a peculiar glow emanating from the old, abandoned house at the end of the block. It had been deserted for as long as I could remember, a relic of the past that no one dared to touch. But tonight, it seemed to pulse with an otherworldly light, casting strange shadows on the cracked pavement.
Curiosity got the better of me. I approached cautiously, each step echoing in the stillness. The air grew colder, and I could feel a tingling sensation creeping up my spine. The glow intensified as I neared the house, now revealing itself as a shimmering, ethereal figure standing by the window.
I stopped in my tracks, heart pounding against my ribs. The figure was translucent, its features blurred and shifting like mist. It turned towards me, and though it had no discernible eyes, I felt its gaze pierce through me, searching, probing.
"Who are you?" I managed to whisper, my voice barely audible over the rustling leaves.
The figure remained silent, but I felt an overwhelming wave of emotions—sorrow, longing, and a deep, unending loneliness. It was as if the spirit was trying to communicate, to share its story, but the words were lost in the chasm between our worlds.
I wanted to run, to escape the chilling presence, yet I was rooted to the spot, compelled by a strange sense of empathy. I took a tentative step forward, reaching out instinctively. The moment my hand passed through the apparition, a rush of images flooded my mind—a family torn apart, a tragic accident, and the endless wait for a reunion that would never come.
Tears filled my eyes, and I understood. This was not a malevolent spirit, but a soul trapped in its own sorrow, unable to move on. I whispered a quiet promise to help, though I had no idea how.
The figure slowly faded, the glow diminishing until it was just me, alone on the street once more. The chill lingered, but there was a sense of peace in the air, as if acknowledging my pledge.
I returned home that night, forever changed by the encounter. The supernatural had always been the stuff of stories and legends, but now it was real, and it had chosen me to bear witness. It was a responsibility I couldn't ignore, and I vowed to uncover the truth behind the spirit's sorrow, to help it find the peace it so desperately sought.
Did it land?
