Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Roman Empire, Karadzic Ballads, Mentor, Man vs Society Conflict. Told in English.
In a time long ago, under the shadow of mighty hills and the watchful eyes of the gods, there lived a young man named Lucius. Lucius was born into a world where the laws were written in stone, and the will of the rulers was as unyielding as the mountains. The people lived in fear of the mighty Senate, whose decrees were carried out without question.
Lucius was a simple man, a shepherd by trade, tending to the flocks that grazed on the rolling hills. He was known for his kindness and his love for the land. His heart was as vast as the sky, and he dreamed of a world where the people could live freely, without the chains of oppressive laws.
One day, as Lucius watched over his sheep, he heard a whisper on the wind. It spoke of a hidden valley, a place untouched by the hands of the Senate, where the earth was rich and the waters flowed clear. It was said that those who found this valley would know true freedom. Lucius felt the call deep within his soul, and he knew he must seek this place.
Leaving his flock behind, Lucius set out on a journey that would test his courage and his spirit. He walked for many days and nights, guided only by the stars and the whispers of the wind. Along the way, he met others who shared his dream of a better world. Together, they formed a band of wanderers, united in their quest for the hidden valley.
As they traveled, the group grew larger, and their hope shone like a beacon in the darkness. But not all were pleased with their journey. The Senate, hearing of this growing movement, saw it as a threat to their power. They sent soldiers to capture Lucius and his companions, to crush their dreams and restore order.
Lucius and his band were forced to hide in the forests, moving under the cover of night. Yet, the more they were hunted, the stronger their resolve became. The people they met along the way offered them food and shelter, inspired by their courage. Lucius became a symbol of hope for those who longed for change.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Lucius and his companions found themselves surrounded by the soldiers of the Senate. The leader of the soldiers, a stern man named Marcus, stepped forward. He demanded that Lucius surrender and return to the life of a shepherd, to abandon his quest and spare his followers.
Lucius stood tall, his voice steady as he spoke. "We seek a world where the earth is not bound by chains, where the people are free to live in harmony with the land. We will not turn back, for our journey is one of hope and light."
Marcus, moved by Lucius's words, hesitated. He saw the truth in the young man's eyes, and for a moment, he remembered his own dreams of a better world. Yet, duty was a heavy burden, and he could not defy the Senate.
But the gods, watching from above, took pity on Lucius and his band. They sent a great storm, with winds that howled like wolves and rain that fell like tears. In the chaos, Lucius and his companions slipped away, the storm covering their escape.
The soldiers returned to the Senate, empty-handed and defeated. Lucius and his band continued their journey, their spirits unbroken. They wandered the land, spreading their message of hope and freedom, their legend growing with each step.
Though they never found the hidden valley, their story lived on, carried by the winds to every corner of the land. Lucius, the shepherd who dared to dream, became a symbol of resistance against tyranny. And in the hearts of the people, a seed was planted, a seed that would one day grow into a mighty tree of change.
Thus, the tale of Lucius, the shepherd who defied the Senate, was told and retold, a myth of hope and courage in the face of oppression, a reminder that even the smallest voice can echo through eternity.
