Once upon a time…
Drawn from: anywhere in the world, Kurnai People's Myths, Superhuman Helper, something suitable with period. Told in English.
In a time when the world was young and the land stretched vast and untamed, there lived a clever crow named Warragul. His feathers were as dark as the night sky, and his eyes shone with the wisdom of many seasons. Warragul was known among the creatures of the earth for his sharp mind and fearless heart. He often flew high above the trees, watching over the land and learning the secrets it held.
One day, as the sun began its slow descent behind the hills, painting the sky with hues of orange and red, Warragul heard a whisper on the wind. It spoke of a hidden valley, a place untouched by time, where the earth's treasures lay hidden beneath the roots of ancient trees. The whisper told of a great stone, glowing with the light of a thousand suns, said to grant wisdom and strength to those who found it. Intrigued by the tale, Warragul decided to seek this valley, for he knew that such a stone could change the fate of the world.
As the moon rose to guide his path, Warragul set off on his journey. He flew over rivers that wound like silver snakes through the land and crossed mountains that stood like silent sentinels against the sky. The journey was long and filled with danger, for the land was home to many creatures, both friend and foe. But Warragul was determined, his heart set on finding the valley and the stone that lay within.
On the third day of his journey, as the sun rose to greet the world, Warragul reached a forest unlike any he had seen before. The trees towered above him, their branches reaching for the heavens, and the air was thick with the scent of earth and life. Warragul knew he was close, for the whispers on the wind had grown stronger, guiding him deeper into the heart of the forest.
As he flew, he came upon a clearing where the trees parted to reveal a sight that took his breath away. There, nestled in the embrace of the forest, lay the hidden valley. It was a place of beauty and peace, where the air hummed with the songs of birds and the gentle rustle of leaves. But it was not the valley that held Warragul's gaze. In the center of the clearing stood the great stone, glowing with a light so bright it seemed to rival the sun itself.
Warragul landed softly on the ground, his eyes fixed on the stone. As he approached, he felt a warmth spread through him, filling him with a sense of calm and strength. He knew that he had found what he had sought, the stone of wisdom and power. But as he reached out to touch it, a voice echoed through the valley, stopping him in his tracks.
"Who seeks the stone of the ancients?" the voice asked, deep and resonant, like the rumble of distant thunder.
"I am Warragul, the crow," he replied, his voice steady and clear. "I seek the stone to gain wisdom and strength, to help my kin and protect the land."
There was silence for a moment, and then the voice spoke again, softer this time. "The stone grants its gifts only to those who are worthy. To prove your worth, you must face the trials of the valley."
With these words, the ground beneath Warragul's feet began to tremble, and the air filled with the sound of rustling leaves and distant thunder. The trials had begun.
Warragul faced many challenges, each one testing his courage, wisdom, and heart. He outwitted a sly fox that sought to steal his prize, solved the riddle of the river spirits, and braved the storm that swept through the valley, threatening to carry him away. Through it all, Warragul remained steadfast, his spirit unbroken.
At last, when the final trial had passed, the valley fell silent once more. The voice spoke again, its tone filled with warmth and pride. "You have proven yourself worthy, Warragul. The stone's gifts are yours."
With these words, the light of the stone enveloped Warragul, filling him with a knowledge and strength beyond measure. He knew that he had gained the power to help his kin and protect the land, just as he had wished.
And so, with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit alight with newfound wisdom, Warragul took to the skies once more, ready to share his gifts with the world. His tale became legend, passed down through the ages, a reminder of the crow who sought the stone and found his destiny among the stars.
