Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Europe, Danilov Ballads, Guardian, feeling of awe and wonder. Told in English.
In a land of lush hills and quiet streams, there lived a man named Ivan. He worked from dawn till dusk, tending to the fields and caring for his small flock. One day, while plowing, his spade hit something hard. Digging deeper, he uncovered a stone box, carved with strange symbols.
Curiosity stirred in Ivan's heart. He opened the box and found a tiny wind-up bird. It glimmered in the sunlight, crafted with exquisite detail. Ivan wound it up, and to his amazement, the bird fluttered to life, singing a tune more beautiful than any he’d ever heard.
The song echoed through the air, bringing joy to the village. People gathered, and Ivan shared his find, feeling both proud and humbled. But as the days passed, the bird's song grew softer.
Ivan heard whispers of a wise old woman in the next village. Seeking her counsel, he learned the bird needed love to keep singing. With each kind act, the bird's song grew sweeter. Thus, Ivan’s life, filled with wonders, shone brighter than ever before.
