Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Trickster, Man vs Vampire. Told in English.
In a time long ago, in a land where the forests were thick and shadows darkened the moonlit paths, I found myself in a village nestled between towering hills. The folk there spoke of an ancient terror that crept through the night, whispering in the wind and leaving fear in its wake. They said it had fangs like a wolf and eyes that glowed with a crimson light.
One evening, as the sun dipped low and the sky turned a deep blue, I sat by the fire in the village square. An old woman, her voice like crackling leaves, told me of a creature that stole the breath from its prey and left them pale and cold. "Beware the night," she said, her eyes glinting like a cat’s in the dim light.
Curiosity, or perhaps some hidden folly, pulled me into the forest that very night. The air was thick with the scent of pine, and the only sound was the crunch of twigs beneath my boots. As I ventured deeper, the moon rose high, casting eerie shadows that danced like spirits on the forest floor.
It was then, in the stillness of the night, that I felt it—an icy breath on my neck, a whisper that curled around my ear. I turned, and there it stood, cloaked in darkness, with eyes that pierced the night. Its grin was sharp and cruel, a promise of the nightmares children fear.
Instinct told me to run, but my legs refused. Instead, I fumbled for the talisman the old woman had given me—a simple cross woven from twigs, meant to ward off evil. With trembling hands, I held it up, and the creature hissed, recoiling as if burned by an unseen flame.
In that moment, I found my courage. Shouting words of strength, I pressed forward, the talisman outstretched. The creature snarled, its form fading like mist in the morning sun, until nothing remained but a chilling echo.
Dawn broke with a gentle warmth that seeped into my bones, and I stumbled back to the village, weary but alive. The people sang my name, calling me the one who had banished the darkness. Yet I knew the truth—that the forest still held secrets, and shadows would always linger.
And now, as I sit by the fire once more, I tell you this tale. Remember, when you walk through the woods at night, keep your faith close and your heart strong. For the night is full of whispers, and the shadows hide both friend and foe.
Did it land?
