Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Aztec Empire, Chevy Chase Ballad, Hero, something suitable with geography. Told in English.
In a time long ago, when the sun was but a whisper in the sky's ear, there lived a mighty people who built their homes amidst lakes and mountains. These people were guided by the gods, who watched from their fiery thrones above the clouds. Among these gods, one was a fierce warrior, his feathers gleaming in colors of dawn. He held sway over the sun and wind, and his breath could stir even the mightiest of storms.
Now, in the heart of this land, where reeds whispered secrets to the water, a great serpent lay coiled. This serpent was unlike any other, for its scales shimmered with the stars' light, and its eyes held the mysteries of the deep. It was said that whoever could tame this serpent would hold the power of the land itself.
The people, knowing this, sought the aid of a brave and wise hero. This hero was known for his courage and his heart as pure as the mountain springs. He listened to the elders, who spoke of an ancient prophecy: "He who brings harmony between earth and sky shall awaken the serpent's gift."
Guided by the winds, the hero set forth on a journey. He crossed fields where shadows danced and climbed peaks that kissed the heavens. His path was fraught with trials — the spirits of the wild tested him with riddles, and the earth trembled under his feet. But the hero's heart remained steadfast.
At last, he reached the serpent's lair. The air was thick with the scent of earth and time. The serpent, sensing his approach, uncoiled with a hiss that echoed through the valleys. Its eyes, bright as twin suns, fixed upon the hero. But the hero did not falter. He sang a song of peace, a melody that wove together the old tales of the land, of sky and stone, of water and flame.
The serpent, moved by the song, stilled its fury. The air shimmered as the serpent spoke, its voice deep as the earth's core. "Brave one, you have shown wisdom beyond years. Take now the gift of balance." With these words, a light enveloped the hero, and he felt the power of the earth and sky within him.
Returning to his people, the hero brought with him the gift of harmony. The lakes flourished, the crops thrived, and the people lived in peace. The winds sang of his deeds, and the sun shone brighter in the sky. And so, the tale of the hero and the serpent was told for generations, a reminder of the bond between man and the land that cradled him.
