Once upon a time…

Drawn from: Captain Nemo's World, The Earl of Murray Ballad, Guide, looking for an old friend. Told in English.

In the days of shadowed seas and hidden iron beasts, there lived a man named Gideon. He was known to many as a seeker of truths and treasures, once a sailor, now a wanderer on paths unknown. Gideon had heard tales of an old friend, a man of grand dreams and mysteries, who vanished into the depths of the world. This friend, a brilliant mind, had built a vessel like no other—a great machine that swam beneath the waves, seeking wonders beyond the reach of ordinary folk.

The story began when Gideon received a letter, delivered by a sailor with eyes like the stormy sea. The letter spoke of a need for help, written in the hand of his lost friend. It spoke of secrets and wonders, hidden in the ocean’s embrace. Without hesitation, Gideon set forth, guided only by the stars and his memory of the man who once dreamed of the deep.

Gideon journeyed far, through bustling ports and quiet hamlets, asking for tales of the sea and the strange vessel that sailed beneath its surface. Many laughed and called him a fool, but some whispered of sightings—of a shining beast that moved like a ghost beneath the waves. These whispers led him to a weathered old fisherman, who claimed to have seen the vessel near an island of jagged rocks, shrouded in mist.

With a heart full of hope, Gideon hired a small boat and sailed alone to the island. The sea was calm, but the air was thick with a sense of waiting. As he neared the rocks, the mist parted, and there it was—the great vessel, gleaming in the watery gloom, its metal skin humming with life. Gideon’s heart raced as he climbed aboard, calling out for his friend.

From the shadows emerged a figure, older but unmistakable. His friend, eyes bright with the spark of discovery, greeted him with a smile. The reunion was brief, for the world below had grown wild and restless, and there were forces that did not wish their secrets uncovered. Yet, in those few moments, they spoke of old times and new dreams, shared stories of adventures past and those yet to be.

But the sea called once more, and his friend, bound to his quest, had to remain. Gideon returned to the world above, his heart heavy with parting but light with the knowledge that the friendship endured, even in the most hidden corners of the world.

And so he journeyed on, with tales to tell of the wonders below, of a friend lost and found, and of a world where the sea held secrets beyond imagination.
