Norse and Nordic tales

Once upon a time…

Drawn from: Northern Europe, Present world story, Guide, rebellion against opression. Told in English.

In a land of tall trees and wide fields, there lived a clever fox named Runa. The forest was ruled by a fierce wolf called Jarl. Jarl took more than he needed, leaving little for the other animals. Runa was tired of watching her friends grow weak and hungry. She hatched a plan to free them from Jarl's grasp.

One night, Runa gathered the bravest animals. She spoke of a way to trick Jarl into leaving the forest. Together, they devised a clever ruse. The night of their plan, Runa led the animals in a loud, joyous feast, pretending they had found a hidden treasure of food.

Jarl, greedy and curious, arrived quickly. Runa, with her swift tongue and wit, convinced Jarl that the treasure lay in the mountains beyond. Hungry for more, Jarl dashed off, leaving the forest behind.

With Jarl gone, the animals celebrated their clever victory. They feasted freely, the forest alive with laughter and joy. Runa had led them to a new dawn, where all lived in peace and plenty.
