Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Tokugawa Shogunate, Barbara Allen Ballad, Trickster, man looking to do good. Told in English.
In a land where cherry blossoms danced on the breeze, I was a humble scribe in service to a noble lord. One evening, a ghostly figure whispered to me of a sacred treasure hidden deep in the forest, a relic that could bring harmony to the troubled villages. Determined to help, I set off, carrying only my wits and a stout walking stick.
The path was long, shrouded in mist. I encountered a wise old monk who spoke in riddles. After much thought, I solved his puzzle, and he gifted me a map, guiding me through the dense, enchanted woods.
In the heart of the forest, I faced a fierce guardian—an ancient beast with eyes like lanterns. Remembering the monk's words, I played a simple tune on my flute, calming the creature. With its approval, I uncovered the treasure—a golden bell of peace.
Returning to the villages, the bell's gentle chime soothed restless spirits and brought joy. My heart swelled with pride, knowing I had done good in this world.
