Baltic tales

Once upon a time…

Drawn from: Estonia, Danilov Ballads, Guide, searching for an object. Told in English.

I remember the day when the village elder spoke of a hidden treasure deep in the whispering woods. An ancient relic, a stone ring said to grant wisdom to the pure-hearted. My heart burned with a desire to find it. So, I set forth with only the stars as my guide.

The path was not easy. Dark forests twisted and turned, with shadows that seemed to watch and wait. I followed the song of the nightingale, said to know the secret ways. Hours turned into days, but the bird led me true.

One evening, beneath a great oak, I found the clearing. There, resting in the earth's gentle grasp, lay the stone ring. It shimmered with an otherworldly light, as if the moon had bestowed its glow upon it.

I picked it up, feeling its power hum through my fingers. With the ring in hand, I returned home, the village now a place of stories, of legends fulfilled, the wisdom of the ring shared with all. And so, the tale lived on.
