Chinese tales

Once upon a time…

Drawn from: Qinq Dynasty, Karadzic Ballads, Guardian, returning back to a childhood place. Told in English.

Once, I was but a curious child, roaming through quiet, lush valleys, where echoes of heroes danced in the breeze. Years passed, and duty pulled me away to distant lands. I grew older, wiser, yet my heart longed for the place of my youth.

One day, a letter arrived from a dear friend, speaking of changes in our valley. With the call of memory, I set out to return. Along the journey, I crossed rivers and climbed mountains, guided by flickering memories. I met an old sage who spoke of trials, yet gave me a charm for protection.

Reaching the valley, I found it transformed, but the essence remained. Familiar trees stood tall, and the river sang its eternal song. In the village square, friends gathered, faces aged but spirits unchanged.

We celebrated with laughter and tales of old. I realized the valley had always been with me, in heart and spirit. In this reunion, my journey ended, and I found peace, knowing some things are ever-lasting, like the ties of home.
