Once upon a time…
Drawn from: Northern Europe, Danilov Ballads, Trickster, the sentence: once you stray from the path you are lost entirely. Told in English.
In the shadows of the towering pines, I once walked a path known only to few. Elders warned: once you stray from the path, you are lost entirely. I laughed it off, young and bold. One day, curiosity took hold, and I veered left, led by whispers of the wind.
The forest thickened, and the path vanished. I wandered deeper, as the trees seemed to close in. I met an old crone, her eyes sharp and knowing. She offered me a woven map, a gift from those before who had lost their way.
Following the map's winding lines, I encountered trials—a roaring river, a bridgeless gap, and a shadowy beast. Each test challenged my spirit, yet the map led me true. Finally, I stepped onto the familiar path again, heart pounding, yet wiser.
Returning to the village, I shared my tale by the flickering fire, reminding us all: heed the path, respect the woods, for once you stray, the journey home is arduous and long.
Did it land?
