Once upon a time…

Drawn from: Europe, Afzelius-Gerger Ballads, Trickster, Feeling of longing for home. Told in English.

There was a valiant seafarer named Erik, who sailed far and wide across the great waters. His heart yearned for adventures beyond the horizon, seeking treasures and tales untold. One day, a storm swept his ship to a distant shore, surrounded by high cliffs and dark forests.

In this strange land, Erik befriended a wise old man, who spoke of a hidden path leading homeward. The path, however, was guarded by creatures of legend, fierce and wily. Erik, driven by his longing for home, set forth with courage, his heart as his compass.

Through dense woods and over rocky hills, he battled beasts and solved ancient riddles. Each step, though perilous, brought him closer to the land of his birth. The journey was arduous, but Erik's spirit never wavered.

At last, he found himself standing on a familiar shore, embraced by the scent of the sea he knew so well. With a heart full of stories and newfound wisdom, Erik realized that the greatest treasure was the comfort of home.
