Once upon a time…

Drawn from: null, Man vs Meaninglessness Conflict. Told in English.

In a land where the dense forests whispered tales of old and the tall mountains seemed to touch the very sky, there lived a man named Wojtek. He hailed from a small village nestled beside a river that sang softly to the moon each night. The people of the village were humble, their lives entwined with the land and its seasons. Yet, Wojtek felt a void within him, a chasm that seemed to grow with each passing day, filled with a yearning he could not name.

Wojtek was not an idle dreamer. He was known for his strength and skill in the hunt, his ability to track the wild boar and the elusive deer. But it was not enough. The thrill of the chase and the taste of victory turned to ash in his mouth. He sought something greater, something beyond the mundane routine of his days. The elders spoke of his restlessness, whispering that he was touched by the spirit of adventure, a rare gift and a heavy curse.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and painted the sky with hues of fire and gold, Wojtek sat alone by the river. The cool water lapped at his feet, and the stars began to blink awake in the gathering twilight. It was then that he heard a voice, soft and melodic, carried on the breeze. It came from deep within the forest, where the shadows danced and the trees stood like silent sentinels.

Curiosity stirred within him, and without a second thought, Wojtek rose and followed the sound. The path through the woods was treacherous, tangled with roots and hidden pitfalls. But his feet were sure, guided by the haunting melody that drew him deeper into the heart of the forest.

As he walked, the world around him seemed to change. The air grew cooler, and the very trees seemed to lean in closer, their branches whispering secrets. He came upon a clearing bathed in silver moonlight, where he found an old woman sitting by a fire that crackled and danced. Her eyes were as sharp as daggers, and her smile was both kind and knowing.

“Welcome, Wojtek,” she said, gesturing for him to sit. “I have been waiting for you.”

Wojtek hesitated, his mind racing. How did she know his name? Yet, something about the woman compelled him to trust her, and he sat by the fire, its warmth chasing away the chill of the night.

“You seek meaning, do you not?” the old woman asked, her voice as soft as the rustle of leaves. Wojtek nodded, unable to find his voice. “There is a path for you, but it is not an easy one. You must journey to the mountain that touches the sky, where the old spirits dwell. There you will find what you seek.”

Wojtek's heart quickened at her words. The mountain was a place of legend, feared and revered by all. No one who had ventured there had ever returned. Yet, the promise of finding what he longed for burned bright within him, eclipsing any fear.

“Go with courage, for the journey will test you,” the old woman said, handing him a small pouch filled with herbs. “This will guide you when you feel lost.”

Wojtek thanked her, though he knew not why. As he turned to leave, the old woman's voice followed him. “Remember, the greatest battle is not with the world, but with yourself.”

The words echoed in his mind as he made his way back through the forest, the firelight fading into the night. The village slept when he returned, and he lay awake, staring at the stars, his heart alight with purpose.

The next morning, Wojtek set out, his path clear before him. He traveled through fields and valleys, past rivers and lakes, each step bringing him closer to the towering peak that loomed in the distance. Days turned into nights, and the journey wore on him, body and soul. But the thought of turning back never crossed his mind.

One evening, as the sun dipped low and darkness crept in, Wojtek found himself lost. The path seemed to twist and turn, unfamiliar and strange. Weariness clung to him like a shroud, and doubt began to seep into his bones. It was then he remembered the pouch the old woman had given him. He opened it, the scent of the herbs filling the air, and felt a warmth spread through him. The path became clear once more, and he continued on, heartened.

At last, he stood at the foot of the mountain, its peak shrouded in mist. The climb was treacherous, the air thin and biting. As he ascended, memories of his life flashed before him—the village, the hunt, the river that sang to the moon. He realized he was not just climbing a mountain, but facing the doubts and fears that had held him back.

Upon reaching the summit, Wojtek found himself surrounded by silence, broken only by the whisper of the wind. He looked out over the world, the vastness stretching before him, and understood what the old woman had meant. The journey had shown him that meaning was not something to be found, but created. It was born from the struggle, the triumph, and even the failures.

With a heart full of peace, Wojtek descended the mountain, returning to his village with a fire in his soul. He no longer sought meaning beyond the horizon, for he had discovered it within himself. The village welcomed him back with open arms, sensing the change in him. And though he continued to hunt and live among them, the spirit of adventure never left him, for he had learned that life itself was the greatest journey of all.
